I offer newborn portraiture sessions in the comfort of my clients' homes, in my studio, and outdoors (depending on season and weather.) You can reserve your place on my booking schedule at any point during your pregnancy. For my newborn sessions, we pencil in a date at the time of booking; once your baby arrives, we touch base to either confirm the original booking date or reschedule based on what works best for you in postpartum recovery, and your new baby's schedule and needs.

What is a newborn session with laura like?

the process

Planning and Scheduling


We will begin by discussing your vision for the session, and getting you on the books with a tentative date (generally, within a couple weeks of your due date; around day nine is ideal for the photo session for many newborns.) Having been through labor and delivery four times with my own children, I know that babies arrive on their own schedule, and that the postpartum recovery period is wildly unique to every delivery. Because of this, all the details of your newborn session are flexible. Once your baby arrives and you are in the headspace to do so, you will get in touch with me to finalize plans based on how everyone is doing at that point. If we were planning for a studio session, but then an in-home session seems more appealing once baby has arrived, for example, we will adjust those details accordingly. The newborn session is about you, your family, and your precious new baby; and the plans bend accordingly.


The Day of Your Session


On session day, we work entirely at your baby’s pace– and at your pace as a mother recovering from labor and delivery. There is never any rush or pressure to hurry through poses or transitions. We build in plenty of time for feedings, cuddles, diaper changes, and breaks whenever they are needed. You can sit back, relax, and leave the handling, posing details, and adjustments to me.


Delivering Your Images


After your session, I go to work carefully selecting and hand-editing your images into a finished collection. You will receive artful, authentic portraits designed to last, giving you a beautiful way to look back on this precious, fleeting stage of life with your new baby for years to come.
